Knights of the Sensitive Plate

In 1883 a journalist on the Brisbane Courier lyrically described the local photographers as 'the knights of the sensitive plate'. It seems an appropriate heading under which curious stories and latest research will find a place.

Photographic negatives were quite valuable to a photographic studio, and the negatives didn't need to be their own!

The Californian Connection:

A number of Brisbane photographers either started their careers in California or ended them there. What was their connection?
